Three Shocking Facts About Network Security in the US

\"Benefits

Since people began to rely on computers for storing private data and information, network security specialists who can perform advanced computer services have been in demand to help protect this information. Yet today, it seems like data breaches and cyber attacks are incredible, no matter how secure a network may seem.

The sad part is not much can be done to ward off potential cyber attacks, especially at larger organizations, as most hackers can’t be traced at all through the web. So the frequency at which data breaches are taking place may shock you.

Do you know as much as you should know about the state of network security systems across America? These three facts could truly amaze you:

Americans’ personal computers are at high risk

Many of us access the Internet at home through an unsecured Internet connection that lacks encryption and data protection — nor does the average American have a computer support team at the ready to help ward off potential cyber threats. From malware to spyware, hacked accounts to spam, there are very few individuals who never see their home network security systems breached. Nine out of every 1,000 computers will be infected with spam alone! However, home Internet access is gradually becoming more secure.

Businesses and companies continue to be hacked

Business data breaches seem to make the headlines once every few weeks — and it’s not just large corporate entities that take a hit from hackers. Some 57% of small businesses have experienced a cyber breach of their network security systems over the last few years. Even worse is the fact that the majority of business cyber attacks come from an internal source like a disgruntled current or former employee.

Not even the federal government is safe

Over the last six years, the U.S. government has seen a truly astounding 680% increase in the number of cyber attacks it has received. Agencies like the Postal Service and the Department of State have been recent targets. While no classified government information has yet been leaked in these hacks, it’s not impossible for that to take place.
